Farzana Doctor (Toronto)
“I’m thrilled to promote two unique contributions to Can-Lit and Queer-Lit released this past September.
“Vivek Shraya’s first novel, She of the Mountains, is a must-read. Frankly, I’ve never seen bisexuality addressed quite like this; Shraya pairs a tender love story with a retelling of Hindu mythology. The book’s illustrations (by Raymond Biesinger) similarly marry the contemporary with the otherworldly.
“Sharanpal Ruprai’s first poetry collection, Seva, explores growing up Sikh in Canada. There is love, humour and belonging in these poems, but also critique, complaint, discomfort, all of which I related to as a diasporic queer South Asian woman.”
